Reasons to Clean Your Roof

Homes are all susceptible to bacterial growth accumulating on their roof. It starts out as a small patch but, over time, the spores spread and begin feeding off the organic material embedded within the shingles. The crushed limestone that is used as a weight additive during production is a natural food source for the bacteria. The most common growth appears as a "Black Streak," which leaves your roof looking ugly! We can safely and effectively correct this common issue.

The use of the following equipment is not permitted. The shingle manufacturers only recommend "Soft-Wash" equipment when cleaning a roof. The use of any other equipment has been proven to damage the roofing materials and may void your existing shingle warranty. It is extremely important to ask what equipment will be used to clean your roof when getting an estimate. Please see our process to get a better understanding of how our system works.

Why You Should Clean Your Roof

  1. Stop the damage that roof staining organisms are doing to your roof. These organisms, specifically algae, lichen and moss are feeding off the organic material in your shingles. In other words, your shingles are their food source


  2. Roof algae, lichens and moss can eat through your shingles and into your roof deck causing wood to rot. Moisture gets in through the cracks. Before you know it, you have mold growth in a home posing health risks to the people and pets


  3. Your insurance company can cancel your homeowner’s policy for having a dirty roof


  4. A roof covered with algae, moss, and so on is no longer able to efficiently reflect sunlight. The algae-covered shingles absorb heat, thereby super heating your attic and increasing your cooling costs
